What is T Visa?
T Visa is an immigration benefit for victims of human trafficking. Congress created this status (commonly referred to as a T visa) in 2000 as part of the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act.
Who can apply for T Visa?
If you are a victim of human trafficking and without a lawful immigration status, you may be eligible for a T Visa protection. As traffickers typically lure their victims by falsely promising better employment or better life in the United States, most trafficked victims are without a valid US visa or residency (green card). It is for this very reason, T visa is for anyone in that vulnerable situation so that they can be protected, live and work legally in the U.S.
Does T visa provide a pathway to permanent residency (green card)?
T visa is generally granted for 4 years and may be extendable in certain situation. You may also be eligible to become a permanent resident (green card status) based on your approved T visa.
