Following a New York District Judge’s opinion last month regarding DACA. Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis of the U.S. District Court in Brooklyn directed the administration on Friday to fully restore DACA program, allowing new and existing DACA recipients to be protected from the risk of deportation and work legally in the United States.
The program, known as Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals, was created by the Obama-administration. It is an immigration benefit for undocumented immigrants who entered the U.S.illegal as children. Once approved, DACA will shield them from deportation, and allow them to be employed legally within the United States.
The newly restored DACA program will accept new eligible applicants who has never applied for a DACA before. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services will also have to accept DACA renewal cases as it has became effective on 12/7/2020.
